MR. & MRS. A
During the National Heroes Day long weekend, we wanted to take our homebody game elsewhere and decided to stay at a hotel just within the city. After an hour’s worth of research and mini debate, we chose to stay at THE RITZ HOTEL AT GARDEN OASES.
This is actually our third time staying at this hotel and our second one for this year. Why do we keep on coming back? Well, THE RITZ HOTEL AT GARDEN OASES is actually, for us, one of the best hotels in Davao City.
With 5 floors and 88 rooms in total, THE RITZ HOTEL AT GARDEN OASES is one of the well-known hotels in Davao City that attract many out of town visitors because of its very strategic location – close to many homegrown restaurants in the metro and to three popular malls namely Gaisano Mall, Victoria Plaza and Abreeza Ayala Mall.
INTERIORS AND EXTERIORS OF THE HOTEL
The Front Desk
The lobby has a small cafe called the DURIAN HOUSE that sells various delicacies and treats with Durian as the main ingredient. Aside from food, they also have keychains and ref magnets available for sale as souvenirs.
Mid Spacious Parking Space at the back of the hotel (near their basketball court)
GARDEN OASES CONVENTION CENTER – the hotel has 11 function rooms that can cater to any occasion like birthday parties, company meetings and the like.
Another thing that we appreciate about the facade of the hotel is the presence of GREENS. Despite being inside one of Davao’s busiest areas, the hotel does not fail to give its customers a great view of nature.
Mini Garden – we have seen garden weddings take place here before.
The pathway going to the restaurant
A nice fountain slash roundabout in the middle of the hotel
A mini playground for the kids and kids at heart to hang out.
An adult sized pool (up to 6 feet deep) and a children’s pool. There is also a lifeguard watching over everybody which makes it safe. The pool closes at 9 in the evening.
The room we stayed in was one of their deluxe rooms that was located at the ground floor of the hotel.
The Matrimonial Bed is very big and spacious. The sheets were clean and no stains were present. We also had a fairly good night sleep
Hair Dryer inside the bathroom – definitely a plus for Mrs. A
Inside the bathroom, a shampoo with conditioner and a soap is provided in two’s. The scent of each product was mild unlike those provided by other hotels that can cause headaches because of the strong stench.
The rainfall shower has a few obvious stains but still works fine.
Hot and Cold Shower Options. The heater worked very fine during our stay.
A safe is provided for valuables
The room also has two bottles of water, a kettle and instant coffee – came in handy after waking up first thing in the morning
During our two stays this year, we noticed that the hotel does not provide a pair of slippers. But when we called the front desk, they were able to provide immediately during each of our stays. Maybe they just give the slippers upon request.
The hotel also provides wifi on majority all of its areas. However, we had a hard time getting a decent wifi signal inside the room that we were staying in. We told the front desk about this concern and the management immediately sent one of their IT personnel over and let us borrow a router. Apparently, our room was the only one where the wifi signal was at its weakest. Thanks to the quick response of the management and also for the router, our wifi signal was very strong and we encountered no problems in using the internet during our stay.
THE RESTAURANT & BREAKFAST FOOD
And on to the favorite part of every staycation, the breakfast food of the hotel
OASES SEAFOOD RESTAURANT – the restaurants also serves lunch and dinner aside from breakfast and is open until 9 in the evening
Salad Station for those who want to eat healthy or are watching their weight
Two types of refreshments are served every breakfast. During our stay, there was Pineapple Orange Juice and Iced Tea.
Cereal, a favorite among children
Bread Toasting Area with different flavors of spreads. Milk for the cereal as well.
Egg Station. Mr. A requested for an omelette (no photo) but it was pretty good.
Arroz Caldo and Sweet Corn with Crab Meat Soup. The Arroz Caldo tasted the usual which was not disappointing at all. But the Sweet Corn with Crab Meat Soup really made a great impression on us because it was very flavorful. We had around three bowls each of the soup and if we weren’t that full yet, we would have gotten more bowls of it.
BEEF TAPA – We have had bad experiences with hotels that served beef tapas wherein the meat was very hard to chew on. But with the beef tapa served during our stay, we did not have a problem with that at all. The meat was soft enough to chew on and the sauce was not too salty unlike others that we’ve tried before.
PORK TOCINO – The pork tocino, same with the beef tapa, was also very soft and easy to chew although the salty side of the pork tocino overpowered its sweet side. Nevertheless, it was delicious.
FISH FINGER WITH TARTAR SAUCE – the fish eaten alone was as bit bland for our taste but made a different when paired with the tartar sauce. Both should really go together.
CARBONARA – no doubt that the carbonara is delicious by nature, but this disappointed us quite a bit because some parts of the carbonara was dry. The white sauce was not evenly distributed which resulted in the lack of flavor in some noodles. And of course we couldn’t just stir the noodles on the container. So we had to settle for choosing noodles that had more sauce on it.
GARLIC RICE – their garlic rice is delicious and its aroma can be smelled even a few meters away from its container.
Aside from the restaurant, the hotel also serves food and snacks at the Pool Area and also has a separate room service menu. Though the food served are the same, they vary in price depending if ordered inside the restaurant, the pool side or inside the room. From what we observed, the room service prices are more expensive compared to the restaurant’s prices.
As what we have mentioned earlier, THE RITZ ARE GARDEN OASES is located in an area (Barrio Obrero) that is home to many of the city’s homegrown restaurants and also very near to three popular malls. So it was easy for us to go out and look for a place to eat or hang out when we felt like it.
