“There’s nothing more romantic than Italian Food” – Elisha Cuthbert
We have all seen it in a few movies sometime in our lives – two lovers enjoying a plate of Italian pasta, grabbing a common noodle piece and slowly move towards each other while devouring that noodle, until they both end up in a sweet kiss. That basically sums up the Italian food scene – romantic, sweet and coupled with great, delicious food.
The Italians are very serious when it comes to cooking their food. There is even a joke among people who have Italian mothers that they need not go to a restaurant because Italian mothers are the best cooks in the world. I’m obviously not Italian but I guess I can agree with that belief. The Italians are responsible for the popular food that we crave on a daily basis – pizza, pasta – and have turned these food into a household name.
There’s no need to go to Italy physically to enjoy a taste of it because we have our very own Italian street food place in Davao City – Pastanni.
Pastanni, named after its owner chef Annie, first dove into the Davao food scene in September 2012, with its first branch at Abreeza Mall. Since their opening, many Davaoenyos embraced the food offerings of Pastanni. Their recipes are quite unique, incorporating Pinoy ingredients to Italian servings to please the Filipinos’ taste buds. Thus their slogan – MAKING ITALIAN PINOY.
Right now, they have blessed the city with another branch located at SM Lanang Premier. People from the northern side of the city (even those who live out of town) can now enjoy the indoor Italian-Pinoy Street Food place at the comfort of one of the city’s popular go-to malls.
I love that Pastanni really did its best to give out that Italian feel, adding a more authentic Italian experience while enjoying their food. The interiors were inspired by the European travels of couple, Raffy and Annie Garcia.
The sauce used in cooking the Puttanesca is composed of Salted fish, which is as tasty as the anchovy that is commonly used.
Eating those pizzas really made me feel that I’m in Italy. I can really taste the distinctness compared to the pizzas that is being eaten commercially nowadays. Thumbs up!
My personal favorite would have to be the Roast Lemon Grass Chicken. I’m not really a huge fan of chicken but when I tasted this one, it really fit my standards. It’s definitely something I want to eat over and over again.
The Mango Snow is just right for my taste. It is best shared with a loved one. I’m going to bring Mrs. A here soon since she is a huge fan of anything that’s sweet.
As for their prices, I find these very affordable and within the budget. Imagine, you pay this much to get a taste of Italy? As my wife calls it, SOLD!
PASTANNI‘s second branch is now open at the ground floor of SM Lanang Premier, fronting BDO.
Their first branch is at the second floor of Abreeza Mall, Bajada, Davao City.
